  • fractures
  • dislocations
  • splint improvisation and preparedness

Cost is $140  - Includes instruction, meals, and lodging

Housekeeping information:

  • BYOB - if you wish - for Saturday social before dinner.
  • Cooking prep and clean-up chores will be shared, be prepared to lend a hand.
  • Everyone is responsible for end of program clean-up of the facility.
  • Two heated dorms (one for men, one for female) contain bunks and mattresses.
  • Bathrooms and showers are adjacent to the bunk rooms.

Essentials:
 (Things you need to bring)

  • Sturdy walking shoes and/or hiking boots
  • Rain gear
  • Outdoor clothing
  • Daypack
  • Water bottle
  • Sleeping bag or linens and blankets
  • Pillow and case
  • Washcloth, towel and personal items
  • Earplugs (if desired)
  • Notepaper
  • Pencils or pens

NOTE!!! Litchfield weather is COLD and we will spend time outside.

White Memorial Foundation  -  860-567-0857  -  Route 202  -  Litchfield, CT
From Rte 84/Hartford:
-take Rte 84 west to exit 39/Rte 4 (Farmington) 
-follow Rte 4 to Harwinton
-go straight onto Rte 118 west (Litchfield)  
From Rte 84/Danbury:
-take Rte 84 east to Waterbury, Rte 8 north
-follow Rte 8 north to Rte 118 west
From Rte 8/Waterbury:                         
-take Rte 8 north to Rte 118 west (Litchfield)
From Rte 8/Winsted and North:
-take Rte 8 south to Rte 118 west
From all points above:
-follow Rte 118 to Litchfield
-follow signs around Litchfield Green to Rte 202 west
-follow Rte 202 west approximately 2 miles
-turn left onto Bissell Road and immediate right into White Memorial
-follow drive to the Carriage House, large building on the right
-Park in lot to the right of the building

From the April, 2003, class...
SOLO instructor Clare Long shows us the fine points of making an arm splint.
Part of the learning process is an evaluation of how each team did.
A good splint can often enable the injured person to walk out of the backcountry.
