SOLO Wilderness First Aid Training

April 5-6, 2008

Learn how to address and cope with emergency situations in the backcountry with two FULL days of instruction.

Topics include:  

  • patient assessment
  • shock
  • long-term patient care
  • soft tissue injuries
  • environmental emergencies
  • fractures
  • dislocations
  • splint improvisation and preparedness

A good splint can allow for a walk out of the backcountry.

When
Start: Saturday, April 5th
Stop: Sunday, April 6th

Where
White Memorial Conservation Center, Litchfield, CT

NOTE: Litchfield weather is COLD, and we will spend time outside.

Cost
$140 for AMC members

Cost includes instruction, handouts, lodging and meals.

Housekeeping information

  • BYOB - if you wish - for Saturday social before dinner.
  • Cooking prep and clean-up chores will be shared, be prepared to lend a hand.
  • Everyone is responsible for end of program clean-up of the facility.
  • Two heated dorms (one for men, one for female) contain bunks and mattresses.
  • Bathrooms and showers are adjacent to the bunk rooms.


Essentials:  (Things you need to bring)

  • Sturdy walking shoes and/or hiking boots
  • Rain gear
  • Outdoor clothing
  • Daypack
  • Water bottle
  • Sleeping bag or linens and blankets
  • Pillow and case
  • Washcloth, towel and personal items
  • Earplugs (if desired)
  • Notepaper
  • Pencils or pens
