SOLO Wilderness First Aid Course

Sat.-Sun. APR. 8-9, 2006. White Memorial Cons. Ctr., Litchfield, Ct. Two FULL days of instruction. Topics incl: patient assessment, shock, long-term patient care, soft tissue injuries, environmental emergencies, fractures, dislocations, splint improvisation and preparedness. $140 incl instruction, meals, lodging. MLS/SOLO WFA Package

June 12-18 and Aug. 14-20. Offered at the Highland Center as a recommended precursor to the AMC’s Mountain Leadership School, the two-day Wilderness First Aid course covers the hands-on basics of wilderness first aid. FEE for MLS/WFA package: $537 (nonmembers $610). Includes instruction, materials, lodging and meals Mon. lunch through Sunday breakfast.


Mountain Leadership Schools

June 14-18 and August 16-20. Mountain Leadership School (MLS) is the AMC’s premier outdoor leadership training program designed to teach the skills needed to lead groups safely in the Northeast’s mountains. FEE: $330 (nonmembers $367). Includes instruction, materials, and meals from Wed. lunch through Sun. breakfast, excluding trail lunches. Forest Service Releases Final WMNF Management PLan

Thanks those 5000 AMC members who sent comments on the White Mtn. National Forest draft management plan. The Forest Service decided not to allow ATVs in the Whites, and recommended 34,500 additional acres of wilderness. Now, AMC is asking Congress to give these lands federal wilderness designation. Learn how you can help with WMNF, Green Mountain National Forest, Northern Forest and Mid-Atlantic Highlands--join the Conservation Action Network (CAN).
