AMC Mountaineering Guidelines |
|
It is required that all AMC Mountaineering OUTDOOR events
require a waiver of
liability to be signed prior to
participation in each event. It is also required that all
climbers participating in technical rock/ice climbing & skiing
events to wear a climbing
helmet.
Responsibilities of
all Participants:
Mountaineering activities can enhance enjoyment of the
outdoors when properly conducted. To insure that every trip is a
good experience, all participants are asked to follow the rules
of the Mountaineering Committee:
Article 1) Any person who participates in any activity of
the CT AMC Mountaineering Committee shall sign in on the
liability release agreement.
Article 2) For all activities except Evening Top Rope
Climbs or Evening Bouldering all participants should inform the
Trip leader of their intention to come out for the trip.
Article 3) For any trip requiring a cash deposit, every
person wishing to join that trip shall send the required deposit
to the trip leader by the date requested. Anyone withdrawing
from a trip within two weeks of the trip shall forfeit the
deposit. A Trip leader may make an exception to this rule for
extenuating circumstances.
Article 4) Any person with No Climbing Experience or Very
Limited Experience (i.e. no belay proficiency) must receive
permission from the Trip Leader or the Mountaineering Chair
before coming out for an activity. This means securing
permission ahead of time, not showing up at the activity and
asking. We have an open policy, to include everyone. But, this
must be done as a courtesy to the Trip Leader and to insure the
general safety of all participants.
Article 5) It is the responsibility of each individual to
seek assistance from a certified member of the Mountaineering
Committee in any action that the individual does not feel
qualified to perform. It is the responsibility of every
individual to engage only in the activity that they are capable
of performing. The trip leader is not required to provide
training to any unskilled or unqualified person, except when an
activity is specified as a training session. Certain
Mountaineering Committee Activities are specified as Training
Sessions. That is the appropriate time to acquire new skills.
Article 6) The use of approved Climbing Helmets is
recommended for all Rock Climbing trips, and required for all
Ice Climbing Trips.
Article 7) All participants shall follow the guidelines
for Top Rope Trips
(weekly climbing events):
- If you own a rope and/or anchor,
bring it with you and set it up.
If you don't have a rope, think about getting one or ask for a
club top-rope and anchor.
If you don't know how to set a anchor, ask a experienced
member for instructions.
If other climbers are at the cliff, welcome them to use our
ropes.
If it appears you are the last climber on a rope, ask, then
breakdown the setup.
As ropes/anchors are taken down please coil them.

Commitment to the environment
In addition, since we as a group have a great
impact on the environment, we would like to do something to
help. Some of the cliffs we frequent are reasonable clean,
others are not, they are littered with cans, paper and broken
glass. If everyone would make it a habit to always carry a small
plastic bag and pickup the litter along the trail & cliff area,
it would help keep the climbing areas looking nice and be a
great help with local neighborhood relations. While some groups
organize cleanup days once a year, we have cleanup days every
week. Thanks for your cooperation
