Family Hiking with AMC
Many CT Chapter hikes are suitable for families with children of various ages. Use the hike ratings for length, terrain and speed to help decide if your children will be able to participate successfully on a planned hike. It is not fair either to your children or the other hikers if your family cannot keep up with the hike as planned by the leader. Contact the hike leader if you are not sure. Children will enjoy hiking more if they can finish the day with a little energy to spare.
Our chapter has created a new Family Activities Committee to coordinate family-friendly activities of all types. See a list of current family activities.
All hikers on an AMC-led hike are asked to sign a liability release agreement. Minors can participate in AMC hikes only if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who must sign an AMC Liability Release Agreement on their behalf.
Some hikes are planned specifically with small children in mind and the description will note this.
